Truck driving is an essential industry that keeps the world moving, and Poland is no exception. In Poland, there is a high demand for Indian truck drivers due to their perceived skill and efficiency. This provides significant opportunities for them to work in the region, allowing them to earn a competitive salary and valuable professional experience. However, if you’re new to the industry, navigating the process of becoming a truck driver can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve created this complete guide to becoming a truck driver in Poland. So, let’s get started!
Step 1: Job Search
First and foremost, you need to have a job to become a truck driver in Poland. To find a job in Poland, you can seek the assistance of a recruitment agency like Skillbee, or you can apply on your own.
Once you apply, the company will shortlist you and conduct an interview. Additionally, you may also be required to take a trade test for truck driving. If you are selected, the company will send you an offer letter, which you will need to sign and send back.
Step 2: Work permit
In the next step, after you sign your offer letter, the company will apply for your work permit, which you should receive within 3-4 weeks.

Step 3: Work Visa
Once you have your work permit, the next step is to apply for a national type D visa. You can fill out the visa application online and, once you have an appointment, you will need to provide all the necessary details at the Polish embassy. It may take up to three months for your visa to be processed.

Step 4: International Driving License
After your visa is approved, the next crucial step for truck drivers is to obtain an International Driving License. You will need to go to your nearest RTO office to apply for this license which will allow you to legally drive in Poland.

All the steps we have discussed so far can be completed while you are still in India. Once you receive your International Driving License, be sure to book your flight ticket as soon as possible, as flight tickets tend to become more expensive the longer you wait. The cheapest flights to Poland from India are usually available from Delhi.
Step 5: Professional Driver’s Profile
Once you arrive in Poland, your company will assist you with the remaining steps. You will need to create a professional driver’s profile at the municipal office and pass medical and psychological evaluations.

Step 6: CODE 95 training
After passing the medical test, you will need to complete the driver’s training, which is also known as the code 95 training.
There are 2 alternative training programs:
• short (for 1 week) – for drivers who obtained a driving license before 10.09.2009
• extended (for 4 weeks) – for drivers who obtained a driving license after 10.09.2009
Training programs are performed in different languages, in particular in Polish, English, and Russian.
Step 7: Driver Qualification Card and Driver certificate
Your company will also help you obtain your Driver qualification card, driver’s certificate, and tachograph card. With a driver’s certificate, you can legally drive in Poland as well as any other EU member country.

Step 8:Temporary Residence Permit
If you wish to stay in Poland beyond the validity period of your type D visa and continue working, you will need to apply for a temporary residence permit. Alternatively, you could apply for another visa, but this would require obtaining a new work permit and returning to your home country for the visa application process. This option can take up to 4-6 months, which is why we recommend applying for a temporary residence permit.

Step 9: Polish Driving license
Within six months of obtaining your temporary residence permit, you will need to change your foreign driving license to a Polish driving license. To do this, you will need to visit the Warsaw municipality office, which can take up to three months to complete the process.

In conclusion, becoming a truck driver in Poland is a viable career option for those who have the necessary qualifications and skills. While the process may seem daunting, following the steps outlined in this guide can help you navigate the various requirements and procedures with ease. From obtaining a job offer and work permit to obtaining a driver qualification card and training, there are several crucial steps that you must follow to become a successful truck driver in Poland. With persistence, determination, and the right resources, you can pursue this rewarding career path and enjoy the benefits of being a professional truck driver in Poland.
